Objective

The purpose of this lesson is to inform the learner of the details of Darwin's theory of evolution and give real world examples of how it works on a day to day basis. Students will practice using their new knowledge and then be given the opportunity to apply that with their explanations for selection that they see around them.

The following are Pennsylvania State 10th Grade Biology Standards this lesson addresses:

D.  Explain the mechanisms of the theory of evolution.
2. Explain the role of mutations and gene recombination in changing a population of organisms.

8. Apply the concept of natural selection to illustrate and account for a species’ survival, extinction or change over time.
